Lashorne Bostic is facing two counts of felony shoplifting after stealing upwards of $1,500 worth of items from Family Dollar in Attapulgus and Walmart, according to Decatur County Sheriff’s Office investigator Robert Humphrey.

Officers responded to Family Dollar on Thursday, Sept. 22, after receiving a call that a man had left the store with a trashcan.

“There was a woman buying some property and she saw him walk out with the trashcan,” Humphrey said. “She comes back and tells the clerk, ‘I used to work in retail that guy just walked out with a trashcan. I don’t know what’s in it.’”

DCSO was provided with a description of the suspect’s van and the license plate number. Gadsden County officers where then notified and a GCSO deputy made contact with the suspect near the Havana Hobbit.

“They find two trashcans full of stuff,” Humphrey said. “One from the dollar store. One from Walmart. He couldn’t arrest them then because they’re across state lines. You have to take warrants.”

The GCSO deputy did confiscate the two trashcans that were full of property that was suspected to be stolen. The two trashcans were then turned over to DCSO.

The trashcans were also stolen from the store, and it is suspected that Bostic walked around the store and filled the trashcan with the help of two females. After they filled the trashcans at Family Dollar, one of the females distracted the front clerk, which allowed Bostic to exit the store.

At Walmart, they were captured on security footage entering the store and then leaving with the trashcan, but there is no footage of the trashcan being filled with items.

After recovering the trashcans full of items, officers had to go to the stores and individually scan the items to determine the value of the goods. According to Humphrey, goods valued at $569 were stolen from Family Dollar and around $1,100 worth of property was stolen from Walmart.

In order to be deemed felony shoplifting, the value of goods stolen must be more than $500.

He said that the trashcans were filled with mostly clothes and home items, including towels.

DCSO is currently working with Florida officials to take out a warrant for Bostic and extradite him back to Georgia.
