The Lady Cats got back on track with two wins over the weekend. Bainbridge (3-2) topped Thomasville 49-42 on Friday and Seminole County 67-26 on Saturday for their first back-to-back wins of the year.

“We came in against Thomasville and we had a pretty good understanding of what they like to do,” head coach Kelvin Cochran said. “His team is young kind of like our team, but the girls just went out there and we got an early lead and executed a little better.”

Nadia Marshall came out firing for the Lady Cats on Friday shooting a perfect 8-for-8 in first half for 17 points and help her team take a 29-14 lead into half.

She missed both of her field goal attempts in the second half, but hit all four of her free throws to finish with a team high 21 points.  Bainbridge held a 41-24 into the fourth quarter and were able to weather the Lady Bulldogs 16-8 advantage over the final eight minutes to hold on for the win.

“They tried to press us so we got some layups and took a lead early,” Cochran said. “We pretty much held onto the lead for the game. Foul trouble is still bothering us though.”

The major advantage for the Lady Cats win came on the boards where three players finished the game with double digit rebounds. Marshall and India Parris each had ten and Tytianna Roseborough lead the team with 13.

“It’s big especially to get some guard help and for a guard to lead the team in rebounding,” Cochran said. “Tytianna, that’s what I stayed on her the most about last year, she’s got rebound more.  She’s been making an effort to try to help on the boards a lot more.”

Tyra Smart finished second the team with eight points, Iyanna Gibbs had seven and Parris had five.

On Saturday, the Lady Cats jumped out to a quick 18-6 before outscoring Seminole County by 24 points in the second quarter to take a 46-10 lead at half.

“I didn’t really feel the pressure going into that game, I thought we should handle them pretty easily,” Cochran said. “We had a packed house and it was good that all the girls’ got a chance to play and everybody got a shot attempt during the course of the game.”

Marshall has 20 points in the win, Parris had seven, Smart had 11 and Ziuana Andrews had six.

“It means a lot if we can go out there and take care of business,” Cochran said. “Even if it says on paper that you should win you still have to go out there and do it.”

The starters were pulled with four minutes remaining in the quarter, which allowed the younger girls to get considerable time on the court for the first time this year

Bainbridge hosted Early County on Tuesday and will host Cairo on Saturday.
