The Bainbridge Lady Cats ended a five-game win streak this weekend with back-to-back losses to region opponents Harris County and Veterans.

Friday night saw the Lady Cats come within three points of the win, losing 44-42.

Some lingering effects from that game held Bainbridge (13-6) back Saturday as they fell 52-38 to the Lady Warhawks.

“We just played flat, and it looked like we had some lingering effects of the tough loss and long road trip from the previous night,” coach Kelvin Cochran said. “I knew Veterans would come in ready to play and we just struggled offensively. They packed it in tight with their zone and we didn’t shoot the ball well from the outside at all.”

On Friday against Harris County, Bainbridge trailed by two at halftime 19-17. A slow third quarter from both teams gave the Lady Tigers some extra cushion for when Bainbridge came back heavy in the fourth, pouring in 18 points. Harris County scored 16 and kept Bainbridge from hitting a field goal to send the game into overtime.

Nadia Marshall led the Lady Cats with 19 points, followed by Tytania Roseborough with 10 points. Marshall, Roseborough and Tyra Smart each drained a 3-pointer.

Cochran said the game plan was to keep Harris County’s taller players off the boards and shoot well from the outside.

“We did one of the two in the first half as we kept the bigs from hurting us, but we didn’t shoot the ball well from the outside effectively enough like we needed too,” Cochran said. “The second half their bigs got going and hurt us inside, but we picked up our pressure defense and hit a couple 3s to keep us in the game.”

Two free throws from Marshall tied the game up 42-42 with 11 seconds left in regulation. Two free throws pushed Harris County up by two points with seven seconds left on the clock. On Bainbridge’s next and final possession, a costly turnover returned the ball to the Lady Tigers.

On Saturday against Veterans, Marshall’s 18 points was the only double digits in the scoring column.

Roseborough added 7 to the board and Smart scored five points. The Lady Cats were 34 percent from the field (12-for-35).

The Lady Cats played Thomasville Tuesday and will host the Warner Robins Lady Warhawks at 5 p.m. before traveling to Thomas County Central for a game against the Lady Yellow Jackets at 6 p.m.

Bainbridge is third place in Region 1-AAAA (3-2) behind Warner Robins (3-1) and Harris County (3-1).
