Bainbridge and Crisp County kept Tuesday’s baseball game scoreless until the Bearcats pulled away with three runs in the sixth inning to beat the Cougars 3-0.

Three Bainbridge pitchers combined to allow only one hit. Dalton Harrell pitched five innings and struck out four Cougars. Clark Wiggins came in for two-thirds an inning and struck out one batter, earning the win for Bainbridge. Will Kelley got the save for Bainbridge, striking out two.

“Any time you pitch a shutout, it’s a good thing,” coach Brian McCorkle said.

Conner Strickland, Nick Barber, Kelley and Griffin Long each collected one hit to lead Bainbridge.

Sam Boutwell, Keith Lyle and Noah Bryant each scored a run for the Bearcats.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kelley singled on a fly ball to second base, scoring Bryant and advancing Lyle to third. On the next at-bat, Lyle scored on a passed ball. Barber then doubled on a fly ball to center field, scoring Boutwell.

In the top of the seventh, Kelley went 1-2-3, striking out the first two batters and flying out the last batter of the game.

“They made some really nice plays defensively that took away hits and extra bases on our guys,” McCorkle said.

Bainbridge didn’t commit a single error in the field.

Bryant had the most chances in the field with seven.

Myles Napier went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the Cougars in hits. Crisp County didn’t commit an error.

“Our guys are not going to quit,” McCorkle said. “We were able to play enough defense and give us a shot until we finally broke through.”

Bainbridge played Warner Robins Friday night. The Bearcats’ next game is Tuesday against Cairo at 5:30 p.m. Their next home game is Friday, March 24, in a doubleheader against Harris County.
