The Bainbridge High School girls varsity soccer team scored four second half goals in route to a 5-1 victory over Brooks County Wednesday night in Quitman.

    Senior Forward Ilean Marquez broke a scoreless deadlock by scoring a goal in the 30th minute of the first half. On the scoring play Junior defender Lacey West lofted a pass forward that was deflected to Marquez.

She then worked herself free past a pair of Brooks County defenders to the middle of the Lady Trojan Penalty area and shot, scoring from 12 yards away, giving Bainbridge a 1-0 lead.

       Early in the second half a Brooks County forward got loose and tied the score at 1-1 with a breakaway goal.

Senior Goal keeper Tori Sprenkle kept the Lady Trojans from taking the lead by recording a save on a penalty kick in the 54th minute.

The shot was set up from a foul by a Lady Bearcat defender in the Bainbridge Penalty area.

     Bainbridge took the lead for good in the 55th minute as senior Midfielder Summer Boyd scored giving the Lady Cats a 2-1 advantage. Boyd had stolen a Brooks County pass and split two defenders then quickly shot from the top of the penalty area for the goal.

Boyd scored her second goal of the night in the 67th minute to increase the lead at 3-1.

Lady Cat Senior Midfielder Elizabeth Brinson sent a pass to the right side to Boyd, who shielded and twirled off a defender then lofted a 23 yard yard shot over the Lady Trojan goal keeper for the goal.

     With eight minutes remaining Bainbridge scored their fourth goal of the game on a goal by Freshman Forward McKenna Stegall. Marques had set up the play when she shot at goal and the Brooks County Goal keeper deflected to the right side of the six yard box. Stegall then alertly ran up and shot the ball scoring at the near post making the score 4-1.

     The final goal of the game came with 5 minutes left in the match as freshman Forward Jamaya Brinson scored for Bainbridge.

On the final goal of the game, came with 5 minutes remaining, as the Lady Bearcats had a succession of shots that were deflected by the tough Brooks County defense.

Finally a bit of space emerged for Bainbridge and McKenna Stegall knocked a pass forward to Freshman Forward Jamya Brinson who then shot and scored from 10 yards out.

  “I thought our team responded well as we had just came off of a tough 7-0 defeat to Thomas County the day before, and then came together to pull out the victory”, remarked Coach Ariail.

“ Also I was pleased with the play of all of the girls as each had a part in the victory”. Defenders Taylor Emmons, Sandy Baker, Mallory and Lacey West played scrappy in the back.

Connecting play At Midfield were seniors Elizabeth Brinson, Aida Diaz, Dece Ford, and Sprenkle, who began the game as a midfielder, but finished the final 28 minutes of the game as the goal keeper recording a shutout and 4 saves..

Also noted for their midfield play were Juniors Courtney Clark, Alyson Matthews,Kamerin Timmons, and a productive game by Paige Stegall.”

“Jamya Brinson, Boyd, McKenna Stegall, and Marquez created many chances attacking the Lady Trojans goal all night.”

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats are now 6-9 overall on the season, and hosted Warner Robins Friday night at Centennial field.

The final game of the season and “Senior” night will be next Tuesday at Centennial field against Worth County.
