Lorraine “Jackie” Taylor was born November 7, 1920, in Bainbridge, the daughter of Vernon Taylor and Annie Dixon Taylor. Mr. John Skipper married into the family when Jackie was just a toddler and lovingly raised her as his own. She lived all of her life in Decatur County and graduated from Fowlstown High School. She married James Edward “PeeWee” Brooks and raised her family in Bainbridge where she was a member of First Baptist Church.

Jackie loved being at home. She believed it was important to “keep your home” evidenced by her perfectly set table at all times. She could often be found working in her yard where no stick was ever safe on the ground. Jackie enjoyed dancing and probably learned some steps from The Lawrence Welk Show, her favorite. Family was a high priority and she spent her life serving her family. Jackie loved visiting with her family, including her brother, Johnny Skipper, her cousin, Sarah Sasser, the grandchildren, and the holidays spent with the entire Higdon family. She made it clear she always wanted Deborah near or, at least, know where she was. Jackie was always fond of the extra care and attention given to her by her son in law, Joe. She looked forward to her evening calls from her son, Taylor, promptly at 8 p.m. Jackie was a fine example of the wife of noble character described in Proverbs 31.

Survivors include her children, Deborah Brooks Higdon and her husband, Joe, of Bainbridge, and Dennis Taylor Brooks of New York, NY; her siblings, Johnny Skipper and his wife, Martha, of Bainbridge, and Mary St. John of Palm Coast, Fla.; and her grandchildren, Joe Higdon, Jr. and Jim Higdon. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James Edward Brooks.
