Samuel Joseph Rackowski, 87, of Perry, Fla., formerly of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2017, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Oak Cemetery.

Samuel Joseph Rackowski was born June 18, 1930, in Trenton, NJ, the son of Joseph Rackowski and Anna Perdun Rackowski. Sam was a 1948 graduate of Trenton Central High School in Trenton, NJ. He served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. He married Mary Alice Brooks in June of 1958. Sam worked in the printing industry until his retirement in 1993.
Sam was an avid reader. He enjoyed canning and cooking, especially baking cookies. He loved going to church and singing in the choir. Early in their marriage, Sam felt the calling of the Lord to go to Bible College and become a minister. He and Mary, and all three kids, sold out and moved to Chattanooga, Tenn. Sam worked full time and attended school full time making the Dean’s list each quarter for that year. When school ended, the printing industry career took over. Sam and Mary moved to Knoxville, Tenn., Gainesville, Ga. and finally Jonesboro, Ga.. In 1993, Sam and Mary made their home in Bainbridge and in 2007 moved to Perry, Fla. to enjoy their twilight years with family.
Survivors include his children, Joseph & Holly Rackowski of Ohio, Alicia & Lowell Bracken of Perry, Fla., and Alison Rackowski of Clayton, Ga.; and his two grandchildren, Faith and Eden. Sam was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Brooks Rackowski; and his siblings, Rudolph Rackowski, Adam Rackowski, Ruth Klenson, Naomi Hatala and Pricilla Kush.
