Trevion Bush, a third grade student in Mrs. McLendon’s class at Jones Wheat Elementary, had the biggest, best surprise ever on Friday afternoon.

He was walking out to the school courtyard when he realized someone was following him. Imagine his surprise when he turned around and saw his father, US Army Sgt. Montrey Bush. Sgt. Bush had just returned from his second tour of duty to Afghanistan after being gone for nine months.

When Trevion was asked what he felt when he saw his dad, he said, “It made me feel shocked.”

His dad’s reaction was rewarding, as he said it made him feel good to know his son looks up to him.

Sgt. Bush, his wife Sharnell Bush and 3-year-old Jordyn are living in Augusta, while he is stationed at Ft. Gordon.

Trevion and his mother, Lashawnda Williams, are living in Bainbridge. She and the step-mother planned the whole event with permission from the school. Everyone who was in on the secret, including the 3-year-old, managed to keep it from Trevion.

Sgt. Bush is completing his eighth year in the military, where he works in the field of communications. He plans to make it his career. His other stations have been Ft. Lewis in Washington, Ft. Hood in Texas, and now at Ft. Gordon in Augusta.

Originally from Miller County, he says enjoys talking to classes and hopes he can be a good role model for them.
