Friday afternoon a maroon Honda Civic sped off after shoplifting at Hibbett Sports in Cairo. Decatur County Sheriff’s Office was notified along with Bainbridge Public Safety to keep on the lookout.
Bainbridge Public Safety officer Ronald McMillan was sitting in the parking lot of the Y.M.C.A. when he observed a vehicle matching the description-traveling west on Shotwell Street.
McMillan turned onto the street and got behind the suspect vehicle to conduct a traffic stop. The driver, Traci Riley turned into Badcock Home Furniture parking lot. However, when McMillan tapped on the back window to indicate his presence Riley drove off. After shouting “stop” multiple times, Riley continued to drive away.
McMillan contacted officer Jayson Myers, who attempted to follow the suspect vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop at the red light and lacked any regard for the general public, so the pursuit was handed over to Georgia State Patrol.
After two troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, and it failed to stop, TFC Palmer and TFC Marchant were able to catch the fleeing vehicle in a short pursuit. They took Riley, along with three passengers, Carlos Brown, 40, Courtney Chambers, 22, and Jacoby Adams, 23, all in for questioning.
