The Bainbridge High School Air Force JROTC competed in the Southern Regional Drill Meet, hosted by Gulf Breeze High School, Gulf Breeze, FL, October 21, 2017.  The drill meet consisted of a competition between 10 teams from 7 different schools.  Bainbridge High School AFJROTC, “Wings of Blue” Drill Team has put in nearly 100 hours of practice time to prepare for the past 2 drill meets.  The team’s hard work and dedication has truly been evident in them winning the Overall, 1st Place in the past 2 drill meets.

Bainbridge High School competed in the Unarmed Division at the Southern Regional Drill Meet and brought home the following awards:

Overall – 1st Place Unarmed Drill

Individual Drill Regulation, Unarmed – 1st Place (Cadet Curtiss Watson)

Individual Drill Regulation, Armed – 1st Place (Cadet Curtiss Watson)

Individual Drill Regulation, Armed – 3rd Place (Cadet Haydn Griffin)

Unarmed Regulation – 1st Place (Commander – Cadet Curtiss Watson)

Color Guard – 1st Place (Commander – Cadet Haydn Griffin)

Lieutenant Colonel David Stewart, Bainbridge High School Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, stated “the team has worked extremely hard this year and has competed very well.  Due to the team’s performance, they have earned their place to compete in the National High School Drill Team Championships in Daytona, FL on May 4, 2018.” 

According to www.thenationals.net, the National High School Drill Team Championships remains the oldest, largest, and finest all-service drill & ceremony competition annually assembled in sunny Daytona Beach, Florida.

Sponsored for decades by the U.S. Army Cadet Command, “the Grand Nationals” as this legendary event has grown to be recognized features school-aged drill & ceremony units of all ability levels and from all of the four service branches.

The finest judges brought in specially for this event, along with the premiere, first-class beach front venue, hotels and surroundings, combined with the finest awards and competition mementoes, give the Nationals the type of overall ambiance that simply cannot be replicated anywhere in the world of school-based athletics.

The Grand Nationals remain an unparalleled weekend of military excellence. Over 180,000 cadets, instructors and parents have attended the NHSDTC competition for over 35 years.
