Prentice was born March 22, 1941, in Bainbridge, the son of Tolly-Lee Delton “Bace” Gleaton and Fannie Lou Smith Gleaton. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School. In earlier years, he worked at various tractor companies in the parts departments and was an avid farmer raising cows, hogs and other livestock. Later, he opened a business in land clearing having cleared land in numerous surrounding Georgia counties and other states for over 40 years. He married Cheryl Delona Peterman from Pelham, Ga. and moved to Decatur County where they made their home for 58 years. He was a member of Delwood Baptist Church.

Prentice, “Jack”, as some called him, was a man of many things. He had a strong faith in the Lord and loved life. As a businessman, he had a reputation for being hardworking. He enjoyed watching old westerns and Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. He had a few memorable traveling excursions in his lifetime, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved nature and taking the back roads any time he could. He always said you see more scenery on the back roads. He instilled a strong work ethic in his son and daughters and taught them to always humble themselves and help others. He never met a stranger. Prentice adored his family and always wanted them around. He especially loved being around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and hearing what activities they were all in to. It made him smile.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Cheryl Peterman Gleaton of Bainbridge; his children, Denise Gleaton Harrison and her husband, Randy, of Bainbridge, Anthony Paul Gleaton, Sr. and Joy also of Bainbridge, and Debbie Sue Gleaton Massey and her fiancé, Scott, of Houston, Texas; his grandchildren, Rachael (Glen), Lindsey (Johnny), Emily (Jonathan), Paul and Jordon (Whittney); his great-grandchildren, Matthew Clark, Caroline, Hunter, Macee, Chason, Landon, Madalynn, Drew, Matthew Cannon, Kristen and Levie; his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Brewer of Whitehouse, FL; his brother, Felton Gleaton of Jacksonville, FL; and close family, Kenneth Faircloth and his family.
