Ernie Steverson Black was born January 2, 1953, in Bainbridge, the son of Fred and Alma Franklin Black. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1971. Steve was owner of Flint Fence Company and co-owner of The Frame Shop and Marlene’s Florist. He worked as a deputy for years with Decatur County Sheriff’s Department and was currently serving as a bus driver for Decatur County Schools.

Known as that guy who would talk to a brick wall, Steve enjoyed conversation with anyone about anything. His smile made you know he was all in and sometimes left you wondering what he was up to. He loved his family and spent many days making memories on the Flint River or at Mexico Beach. Steve was always up for a road trip and made every experience “one of a kind”.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha Black; his sons, Steve Black and his wife, Amanda, and Kyle Black and his wife, Ashley; his brother, Fred Black, Jr. and his wife, Jane; and his grandchildren, Hunter Black, Aden Black, Ethan Black, Kaitlynn Black and Gage Kempton. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his grandchild, Payton Black.
