Spring forward an hour this Sunday for Daylight Savings Time

The time will be springing forward one hour Sunday morning for daylight saving time.
The time change will occur automatically with many smartphones and computers at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 11. Remember to move your other clocks forward one hour before heading to bed Saturday night.
The time of year also serves as a reminder to change batteries in smoke detectors around your home. With the time change falling every six months and life of a battery lasting close to the same duration, safety officials say the time change is a great reminder.
The peak time for home fire fatalities is between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. when most families are sleeping. Smoke alarm maintenance is a simple, effective way to reduce home fire deaths. A working smoke alarm can give your family the extra seconds you need to get out of a home fire safely.
Georgia Power reminds customers that this weekend is a great time to focus on once-a-year energy actions that can deliver real savings all year long.
After you set the clocks forward, take a few minutes to:
Drain the tank. Properly maintaining the water heater by draining a bucket of water from the tank helps clean out residue that can reduce efficiency.
Service your system. Have your furnace and A/C serviced to increase your system’s operating efficiency. A yearly maintenance check can help reduce your monthly energy bill by up to 15 percent.
Clean the coils. Use a vacuum to clean the condenser coils on the back of the fridge to minimize energy use.
