Bainbridge on the hunt for 3-game win streak Thursday night against Trojans

It was an emotional win for Bainbridge last Friday night against the Cairo Syrupmakers. Down 7-0 at the half, Bainbridge put together a couple of scoring drives and tightened up its defense to win 15-7.
But it’s back to the grind now, and Bainbridge (2-0) had to jump on it sooner rather than later. This week’s game against the Lincoln Trojans (1-0) in Tallahassee was rescheduled for Thursday, Aug. 30. Players and coaches got a jumpstart on practicing for the early game Sunday.
Bainbridge showed a toughness coach Jeff Littleton expects to see out of the players this season.
“Perseverance. We practice that,” said Littleton. “We try to put the kids in situations where they will have to fight their way through it and make it tough on them. You hope that helps. I think for the most part, Friday night showed that they can get through some tough situations and fight their way out.”
Helping in that fight were offensive linemen Jacob McLaughlin, who came out of week 1’s game against Seminole County with an injured knee, and Brad Mitchell, who hasn’t seen game action since the spring. Unfortunately, running back and safety Caleb McDowell took a hit against Cairo that sidelined him for the rest of the night. He is awaiting an MRI scan of his knee.
Lincoln’s offense stars a dual-threat quarterback, Chris Beard (1) who rushed for 15 yards and passed for 143 more last Friday against Niceville. Running back Kamari Morales (9) rushed for 19 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Trojans, and Caleb Matthews added another one, racking up 191 yards on the night.
Littleton said much of the offense is reads and counters. On defense, they base out of a 4-3 formation with many different looks up front.
“Team is feeling really good,” said Littleton. “I feel good about where we are.”
Bainbridge kicks off against the Trojans at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee at 7 p.m. Thursday.
