As Bainbridge area residents begin to recover from Hurricane Michael, many of its neighbors across the Florida line are still struggling, with many not expected to have power for another week.

For those who wonder, “How can we help?” here is a list of some charities already active in the recovery effort.

The American Red Cross is partnered with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief to deliver food to provide hot meals, water and snacks to residents who are still without electrical power or water service. The Red Cross also is operating shelters in the storm-ravaged areas. To donate, visit redcross.org, or text MICHAEL to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

In the wake of Hurricane Michael, the Salvation Army has already provided more than 175 million meals, 61,346 snacks, 112 clean-up kits, 618 personal hygiene kits and 14,416 hours of employee and volunteer service. To support them, visit their web site at https://disaster.salvationarmyusa.org.

Feeding the Gulf Coast is seeking monetary donations and/or volunteers to help feed the people of the coast. Volunteers are needed at both the Milton and Panama City locations.

Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief has chainsaw teams in place in Southwest Georgia, and is assisting the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army with meal preparation.
