Apply now for youth quail quota hunts with Georgia DNR
Published 3:35 pm Tuesday, November 13, 2018
Beginning today, hunters can apply for two scheduled youth quail quota hunts that will take place on land managed for bobwhite quail, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division. These hunts are made possible by generous private landowners that participate in Georgia’s Bobwhite Quail Initiative.
“Don’t let this chance slip by—apply for these exceptional youth quail hunts on some outstanding properties for a truly rewarding hunt,” says Jessica McGuire, program manager for the Bobwhite Quail Initiative of the Wildlife Resources Division. “These quota hunts will allow a pre-determined number of hunters access to a particular area while providing quality hunting opportunities.”
Two hunts are available, one in Burke County on Dec. 16, and one in Bleckley County on Jan. 26. Each hunt is open to two (2) youth and adult pairs.
All youth participants must have completed their hunter education course. Hunters are encouraged to bring their own dogs. However, if not possible, bird dogs and a handler may be available.
Applying for a Quota Hunt is simple. Visit www.gooutdoorsgeorgia.com and select “Quota Hunts” and follow the steps to complete your application. Quota applications for either youth quail hunt must be received by November 30, 2018. Only youth apply, and they must be between 10 and 17 years of age on this date.
How will you know if you are selected or not selected for a hunt? You will receive a notification through the Go Outdoors System. So, make sure that your email is current and correct in order to receive all quota updates, confirmations or any notices about quota hunts.
Selected hunters will then receive a permit by mail, and will be contacted by a Wildlife Resources Division representative to make final arrangements. Permits are non-transferable.
