A two-vehicle collision on Monday led to Bainbridge Public Safety Investigator Chip Nix pulling a grandmother and her two grandchildren from one of the flipped vehicles.

Nix and Investigator Larry Funderburke were working on an unrelated investigation when they drove up on the wreck right as it happened. Nix immediately went to the flipped vehicle and was able to intentify the grandmother and two kids in the vehicle.

All the car’s airbags were deployed and the three inside were suspended upside down by their seatbelts. Nix also noticed a Bible laying on the ceiling of the car.

“God was riding with them,” said Nix.

Nix and Funderburke noticed the vehicle was smoking, so Nix hurried to pull the two children and the woman out of the car through the rear passenger’s side door. One of them was transferred to the hospital for minor injuries.

According to BPS officer Mike Prindle, warrants were taken out for the arrest of the other vehicle’s driver, Savanana Cumbie, who is being charged with DUI and possession of marijuana.
