Joanne Benton Howell

Mrs. Joanne Benton Howell, age 83, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Memorial Manor, Bainbridge, Georgia. A memorial service will be held in her honor, 6:00 pm, Monday, July 22, in the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home. The Rev. David Grubbs will officiate. Mrs. Howell will be buried beside her husband in Oak City Cemetery.

Joanne was born August 11, 1935 in Thomas County, Georgia. Her parents, Joseph B. Benton and Maggie Bass Benton, have preceded her in death. Joanne married Charles Willis Howell. She was a dedicated housewife and homemaker. Joanne worked at the Post Searchlight for over 30 years. She had many duties and jobs at the paper but mostly worked in the Circulation Department. She loved to crochet and quilt and was an avid reader. Joanne loved to attend auctions. Joanne Howell will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

Joanne Benton Howell is survived by her children, Charles (Chuck) Howell, Jr. and wife, Tammy; Vilda Sue Cobb and husband, Charles; Peggy White and husband, James; and Martha Ann Hobbs; brothers, Edwin Benton and Billy Benton and wife, Dianne; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Willis Howell, Sr., parents, and sister, Betty Godwin Boles.
