McRae far exceeds goal for art camp proceeds going toward cancer research

Kate McRae will soon celebrate her 17th birthday, and her only wish was to raise $1,700 for ovarian cancer research.
By the time she celebrates, she will have exceeded that goal and have raised $4,300 thanks to her Color Me Kate Art Camp that she hosted over the summer.
McRae said she started the organization to raise money for ovarian cancer research, after she was diagnosed with a rare type of ovarian cancer at the age of 15.
“I wanted to start Color Me Kate in order to raise money for research so that kids in the future can receive the treatments they need in order to keep them healthy,” she said.
McRae is so thankful to everyone who came to the camp to help support her cause, but especially her parents, whom she said she couldn’t have done it without.
“Thanks to everyone’s generosity, I was able to double my original goal,” she said.
McRae presented the check to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Cancer Center surgeon, Dr. Margaret Ellison, who made her original diagnosis.
“I’m so thankful to her and how great she was throughout the whole process,” she said.
McRae thanks everyone again for their support and her friends who helped with the camp and kept it running. She hopes to continue to support the research foundation in the future through other activities.
