Bainbridge is 3-0 for the first time since 2015, and its win against North Miami Beach (2-1) Friday night couldn’t have looked more convincing.
The Bearcats were up 27-0 at halftime, and scored another 10 in the second half to give Bainbridge the 37-0 win over the Chargers.
Coach Jeff Littleton was pleased, not so much in the manner that Bainbridge won, but because the Bearcats showed glimmers of mental toughness he and the coaches have been looking for every day this season.
“I was really proud of our kids and coaches for focusing on the game at hand and not having a letdown after (the Cairo) game,” said Littleton. “That’s really big on our coaches’ part and our players’ part for buying in and really going to work and focusing on getting better.”
Just 1 percent better every day is what Littleton and the coaching staff are looking for. That was clear Friday night at Centennial Field, and Littleton noted the Bearcats got better in a lot of areas he wanted to see improvements in.
Bainbridge capitalized on the six turnovers that North Miami Beach gave up.
Running back Rashad Broadnax shined for Bainbridge’s rush attack, racking up two touchdowns for the Bearcats on 21 touches and 129 yards.
Quarterback Quayde Hawkins had a stout night, going 10-of-18 for 147 yards and two touchdown passes, one to Deyon Bouie for the first score of the game and another to Michael Ryan in the second quarter. He also had an interception in the end zone late in the third quarter.
Garrett Sigman hit a 22-yard field goal in the third quarter that put Bainbridge up 30-0.
Courtney Thomas finished off Bainbridge’s scoring for the night with a 17-yard run into the end zone early in the fourth quarter.
The win marks Littleton’s 50th win as Bainbridge’s coach and the 10th straight win for the Bearcats.
“We talked about getting better every day,” said Littleton. “Don’t worry about trying to be the best. Just get better every day. One of the things I told them right here. Don’t get too high don’t get too low. Be mentally and physically tough. We preach that.”
