Bainbridge High School FFA members spoke to the Chamber of Commerce Thursday afternoon about their recent trip to Indianapolis for the national FFA convention.
During their time at the convention, FFA officers had the opportunity to attend sessions on agriculture, meet over 70,000 members from across the nation and attend an NBA game.
While at the convention, members got to hear from a variety of speakers. Sophomore, Brent Miller especially enjoyed the keynote speaker Bob Goff. Miller said Goff spoke on authenticity between fellow members of the same organization.
“When you’re authentic with each other your outcome will be greater with your common goal,” was Miller’s favorite quote from Goff.
Miller said he looks forward to applying this quote in the their chapter.
“Being authentic with each other allows us to move together as one unit in challenges so we can come together and achieve a common goal,” Miller said.
Junior Madalyn Yancey also enjoyed the speakers, but her favorite came from the retiring addresses of the national officers.
“They all have something to say and have a message to get across to other FFA members,” Yancey said.
One of the main messages Yancey took away was to try to see other’s views and new perspectives and not to judge someone who thinks differently from you.
Yancey said her outlook changed due to the fact she roomed with girls from another county.
“It was cool to see how they did things differently than we did and how it worked for them, where it may have failed for us,” she said.
FFA Chapter President Sara Matthews said one of her favorite parts was learning about others as well and where they came from, but still connecting with them through FFA.
FFA Chapter Advisor Victoria Hill said she thinks the members learned the most about seeing everyone through a new perspective, but to always keep an open mind.
“Not everyone is in involved in production agriculture, but everyone is leadership minded and enjoy learning from others,” Hill said.
She believes this new mindset the members took home will help them not only in the classroom, but also in the community when they are working with others.
