The City of Bainbridge is currently taking all precautionary measures to help reduce the spread of germs in the face of the Coronavirus-19 Pandemic.

In order to help reduce the risks, the City of Bainbridge offices are temporarily closing to the public, along with the Bainbridge Public Safety office.

“We are following the guidance that comes from the state,” City Manager Chris Hobby said.

For those who still need to pay bills to the City, they can make utility payments online at www.bainbridgecity.com or utilize the drop boxes located on Clark and Broad Streets. Should anyone need assistance with their utilities at this time, they can call 229-248-2000.

Although the BPS office will be closed, officers will still be on duty 24/7. There will be no fingerprinting or background checks done at this time. They are asking residents to call 229-248-2038 for non-emergencies and continue to call 911 in the event of an emergency.

While some cities have taken a more rigorous approach, such as closing down restaurants and bars, Hobby said they are leaving that up to the Department of Public Health and the Governor’s office. If the City is called upon to do close down eateries, they will comply, but until then they are open for business, although some are only operating as drive-thru currently.

“This is all unchartered waters,” Hobby said. “I know it’s hard, especially when there are no known cases here, but experts are trying to mitigate the spread of the virus, so it’s important we follow their instructions.”

Hobby said the City will operate in this closing mode for the rest of the month and possibly longer.

“We are doing everything we can to keep our employees healthy,” Hobby said. “We just have to let the state experts lead the train on this.”
