What’s better than a sweet treat to help you relax for a few minutes?

That’s exactly what Dairy Queen owner Gary Phillips had in mind for Bainbridge’s hospital employees and first responders. Over the last couple of days, he and his crew have been delivering Blizzards to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Bainbridge Public Safety and Memorial Hospital and Manor.

Hopefully, it will brighten up their a day a little, he said.

“All of these people are on the front line,” said Phillips. “With all the bad news and everything going on, we just decided we would help out the first responders, especially at the hospital, the ones trying to keep us safe. We’re just trying to give back to the community.”

Dairy Queen is in the same boat as most of the other restaurants businesses in Bainbridge right now. The drive thru is still open, but he is trying to find other ways to make ends meet while still providing sanitary service for customers, including implementing plans for curbside pickup in the near future.

But Phillips believes in giving back, both in good times and in bad times.

“We are just trying to do something for the people up there,” said Phillips. “There is so much worry and so much anxiety, but if you can open a blizzard and get a smile on their face, it makes them happy. If you can just find a bright spot in this cloudy, stormy weather, it can take them back to good memories.”

Phillips added that he and his crew at Dairy Queen aren’t finished dropping off sweet treats around Bainbridge just yet.
