Mathews Eugene Glass was born December 6, 1946 in West Point, Ga., the son of James Dempsey Glass and Queen Elizabeth Johnson Glass.  Gene served our fine country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War.  He was the manager at Dairy Queen in Bainbridge for 10 years.  Gene married Susan Velinda Glass on June 16, 1976 and they spent over 40 years happily married.  He was an old school family man, always making sure everyone was well taken care of.  He did what he could to teach his kids the hard-earned lessons of life and spoiled his grandkids and great-grandkids like no other.  Making some fresh homemade donuts was one of his favorite things to do for the family.  Gene was an outdoor enthusiast.  He could sit for hours in a deer stand waiting on the right buck to step out or on the river trying to catch a mess of fish for a good ole’ southern fish fry.  When he was caught sitting around the house for a spell, you could always hear “The Duke” or some other western playing on the TV. Gene was a member of the House of Victory Church.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Susan Velinda Glass; his children, James E. Glass of Dallas, TX, Joseph Mathews Glass (Elaine) of Prairie Grove, AR, Angie Cleveland (Jeff) of Blakely, Ga., and Susan Melissa Glass (Jack), also of Blakely; his mother, Queen Elizabeth Johnson Glass; his brother, James Dempsey Glass (Norma) of Phoenix City, Al.; his grandchildren, Mathew Glass, Isaac Morrow, Kyla Glass, Abigail Young, James Alexander Glass (Carrie), Jonathon Andrew Glass, Dylan Michael Glass (Tonya), Harlie Danielle Battle (Cortez), James Blake Glass (Angel), Stephanie Williams (Austin), Jesse Cleveland, Gage Cleveland, and Tucker Cleveland; and his 8 great-grandchildren.  Gene was preceded in death by his father, James Dempsey Glass; and his brother, Billy Wayne Glass.
