Joseph Cary Dollar was born May 27, 1955 in Florida, the son of Joseph Elijah Dollar and Elizabeth Brockett Dollar. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1973. Cary married Melinda Murphy in 1980 and they made their home in Bainbridge. Cary was a general contractor and member of First Baptist Church.
As a planner and strategist, Cary’s favorite quote was: “I love it when a plan comes together.” He enjoyed the outdoors and was well known for “fishing all the time”. Cary loved cooking and eating; his favorite place to gather was the table. Most of the time he was a big ol’ teddy bear but hit him just right and you knew there was a polar bear inside. Cary was a football fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on and maybe even armchair quarterback the Bainbridge Bearcats or the Georgia Bulldogs.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Melinda Murphy Dollar; his children, Joe & Beth Dollar of Bainbridge, Ga., and Eric & Jessica Dollar of Tallahassee, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Gambler, Benji, and Grant. Cary was preceded in death by his parents.
