Ask any industry leader or small business owner what their greatest need is and their answers will be the same – employees. “There has never been a better time to enter the job market, or make a career change,” says Lauren Minor, President of the Bainbridge Decatur County Chamber of Commerce. On Wednesday, March 24th, The Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce along with the Industrial Development Authority and Southern Regional Technical College held a multi-industry job fair for eight companies located in Decatur County. Together, the companies offered over 130 open positions.
While the turn-out was light compared to hiring events held in the past, the industries present considered it a success. A1 Roof Truss, a company currently building a new facility in Bainbridge, interviewed and hired two people at the career fair from Quincy, Florida. Many other companies commented receiving promising resumes from those who attended. “There will be more hiring events like this in the future. We will have more jobs available throughout the year with the opening of A1 Truss and other companies on the horizon, so this won’t be the only opportunity to get in front of these industries,” Rick McCaskill, Director of the Industrial Development Authority commented.
Many of the jobs available at the career fair are still open. While a portion of the jobs are for entry-level positions, there are many opportunities available in the trades such as welding, CNC machinists, maintenance technicians, and industrial painters. Most of the companies involved will take capable individuals and train them. “It is important for the Chamber to assist our local industry in finding qualified employees. These companies have invested time and money into our economy – providing our community with a host of quality jobs. It’s our goal to ensure they can attract and retain a workforce from the tri-state area,” said Lauren Minor, Chamber President. Anyone interested pursuing these open positions is instructed to contact the Chamber of Commerce or the companies directly: A1 Truss, City of Bainbridge, Danimer Scientific, John B. Sanfilippo & Son, MetroPower, Steward Machine, Suber Custom Shutters, and Taurus. For more information, call the Chamber at 229-246-4774.
