James Stanley Steadham was born April 7, 1936, in Bainbridge, Ga., the son of  James & Lollie Jane Edmonds Steadham. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and served in the National Guard. Stanley farmed most of his life and never tired of the smell of a freshly plowed field. He married Patsy Rush in 1995. Stanley was a member of First Baptist Church.

Stanley was a true Southern gentleman. He was talented with a great sense of humor. He loved wood working and his shop was his joy. If you could describe it, he could build it. Stanley could cook for the masses or just his Wednesday night buddies, fish like a pro, tell jokes off the cuff, and his granddaughter, McCall, put a spring in his step. Stanley was always on the go and seemed to have connections no matter how far from Bainbridge he ventured.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Patsy Steadham; his children, Shawn Steadham of Tallahassee and Suzi & Mike Kraft of Bainbridge; his grandchildren, McCall & Neal Taylor and Mike & Lindsay Webb; his sister, Jane S. Black and her husband, Fred; and a host of extended family. In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Steadham.

Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, assisted the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
