The Bainbridge Bearcats will face their first road test this Friday night against the AAAAA Coffee Trojans.
Last year, the Bearcats fell short in their home opener against the Trojans 16-31. However, Head Coach Jeff Littleton is looking forward to a rematch and to bring back a win this year.
“We are going to have to match their intensity on their home field and play a solid four quarters of football,” he said.
Littleton said with the season just starting, the team doesn’t have much to go off of, film wise, but they do know about some of the players the Trojans graduated and some of the key players returning.
The Trojans graduated Quarterback AJ Wilkerson, along with a couple of offensive lineman and their all-state safety.
However, Littleton said their best player, senior Wide Receiver and Running Back Maurice Turner is back.
Turner scored two touchdowns on the Bearcats last year.
Littleton also pointed out that Coffee has their all-state Linebacker returning this year, but have lost some good players on defense.
Littleton knows they will have their hands full with a well-coached, dynamic football team, but is prepared for the challenge.
He has the players completing practices before or after their instructional periods, now that classes have gone virtual.
He said the players and assistant coaches have remained pretty healthy, and intend to stay that way for Friday’s game.
Kickoff will be at 7:30 at Coffee in Douglas, Georgia.
