Superintendent Tim Cochran recently shared some exciting news with the Board of Education and Decatur County schools’ faculty and staff. The 2021 graduation rate for BHS is 95%, surpassing the district average of 89% and the state average of 84 percent.
This graduation rate is a huge milestone for Decatur County, who had a 72% graduation rate in 2012.
Cochran attributes the increased graduation rate to the laser focus teachers and counselors are putting on students and their progress.
Since 2012, BHS has implemented Cats Connect, along with various other programs that allow counselors to check in on their cohorts. The school also offers make up credits, summer school and utilizes the NBLC (New Beginnings Learning Center) for students who need a personalized learning community and individualized instruction.
“Everybody is really excited about this accomplishment,” Cochran said of the faculty’s reaction to the news.
“It’s really a good public recognition of all the work our staff puts into these students to get them graduated,” Cochran ended.
