During the month of November, First Port City Bank is partnering with Family Connection to sponsor the annual Community Food Drive to replenish our local food banks. Canned food and non perishable items can be dropped off at First Port City Bank, the City of Bainbridge, Bainbridge First United Methodist Church, the Bainbridge YMCA, and Pic-N-Save. Competitions will be held within Memorial Hospital and local schools as they compete to see who can collect the most food.
Employees of First Port City Bank along with Ronnie Burke of Family Connection and other volunteers will collect all the food and transport it to a central staging area at Bainbridge First United Church. There it will be sorted and prepared for distribution by volunteers.
The Community Food Bank houses canned goods at Bainbridge First United Methodist Church. This organization began over 12 years ago, with a few concerned individuals who saw a need. With the help of Family Connection, the Food Bank began to take shape and has been very active with teams of volunteers working together every week.
The food bank is replenished every year through the annual food drive, individual donations, as well as food purchased from Second Harvest SWGA. Monetary gifts given to the food bank by generous people throughout the entire county allow food bank volunteers to purchase items such as peanut butter, meat products, canned fruit, and much more from Second Harvest of Southwest Georgia.
This annual food drive allows our community to reach out to to those in need in our area by distributing the food that is collected, not only at BFUMC, but also to other local organizations who provide similar services. Some of these include The Salvation Army, St. John’s Episcopal “Little Free Pantry”, and the Bainbridge Church of God.
