On Wednesday, June 15, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation into the allegation of rape against a juvenile. This investigation eventually led to the arrest of Devante Grant.
According to reports, DCSO Sergeant Timothy Fowler was on duty when he received a call from Bainbridge Public Safety Officer Luke McConnell in reference to a rape that had already occurred.
Fowler made contact with McConnell, who advised his passenger claimed she was raped earlier in the day.
The passenger said she had met Grant through mutual friends on Snapchat and invited him over to her home to hang out. While spending time together, Grant reportedly forced himself onto the victim.
The victim then went to work, where she reported it to a co-worker, who helped her contact McConnell.
The investigation was then turned over to DCSO Investigator, Garrett Wooten, who determined the offender to be Grant through a rape kit.
Wooten then arrested Grant and found him to be in possession of multiple drugs.
Wooten seized two samples of green liquid, suspected to be drugs, along with a bag of marijuana and 13 small white baggies of suspected cocaine.
He was charged with one felony count of terroristic threats and acts, one count of rape, one misdemeanor count of sexual battery, one count of sodomy and one count of aggravated sexual battery.
This is not Grant’s first run in with the law. Earlier this year, he was charged with a DUI, while he was charged in 2021 for forgery.
Investigators are hopeful that this will bring the victim peace and take another drug dealer off of the streets of the community.
