The BHS Lady Cats softball team continues to be the team to beat in their region as their win streak moves to eight straight with wins over Seminole County and Hardaway this past week. These wins also improve the Lady Cats to a 7-0 record within the region just behind a 9-0 Cairo team.
In the past eight games, the Lady Cats offense has been both dominant and efficient as they are averaging 15 runs per game in that stretch and scoring over 20 runs in three out of the eight wins. Head Coach Rex Wade has been pleased with the way that his hitters are battling at the plate and being smart with their plate approach.
“Lately we’ve done a great job of keeping the opposing defenses on their toes,” said Wade. “We’ve both hit the ball really hard and set each other up with opportunities to score, as well as played small ball which makes it really difficult for other teams to defend.”
Defensively the Lady Cats continue to play a clean and fundamental game as pitcher Brenna Conley continues to be the Lady Cats ace. Coach Wade emphasized that the key to being a good defensive team is having the ability to trust your teammates.
“Brenna has been pitching at her best lately but what’s most important is everyone is trusting each other,” said Wade. “Sometimes our defense doesn’t get many opportunities to make plays because of Brenna but when their number is called to make a play everyone has trust in each other that they will step up and make the play.”
Looking ahead for the Lady Cats, Coach Wade and his players are really motivated to take home the region championship. Coach Wade has instilled a winning mindset into his players that they bring to practice everyday and are motivated to continue to add to the Lady Cats legacy of success.
“I think our girls not only want to win the region championship, but want to win at all costs and do whatever it takes to win,” said Wade. “We have a really self-motivated group who really cares about winning and I think winning creates good citizens because it shows you can overcome adversity.”
The Lady Cats squad is filled with confidence as they head into a three game series this week against first place Cairo. The Lady Cats will host Cairo at home on Tuesday night and then travel to Cairo for a double-header on Thursday.
