Mr. Harper Carson Daniell, Jr., age 78, of Eastman, Ga., died Saturday, March 25, 2023, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 30, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Rich Hulsey officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, April 1, at Akridge Cemetery in Camilla, Ga., with Mr. Robert McDaniel officiating.

Harper was born and raised in Bainbridge, Ga., a 1962 graduate of Bainbridge High School, and a 1966 graduate of Georgia Southern College. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he trained as a pilot. In 1971, he was stationed in Turkey and later was stationed in Cheyenne Mountain, Colo., in 1975, as part of our nation’s satellite defense program. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1981 with the rank of captain. After his retirement, he worked as an inventor for Solartz, Inc. for a few years and then after moving to Georgia became a 6th Grade elementary school teacher in Bainbridge, Ga.  Harper then became a US Postal Service Mail Carrier, as his father before him. He retired from the USPS in the early 2000s.

He was the ultimate remote-controlled (RC) hobbyist and specialized in building and flying hundreds, if not thousands, of model planes over the 50 years he spent dedicated to the hobby. He won many awards and trophies and was skilled in aerobatic flying and set a speed record for RC airplanes.  He was a former president of a RC club in Colorado and has written articles that were published in newspapers and magazines that articulated his love and passion for this sport.

Mr. Daniell was also an avid reader, a huge history buff and spent a considerable amount of time at the library. In 2017 he met the love of his life at the Bleckley County Library where Aurelia gave him his library card. They then got married in 2020. Harper is the son of the late Ella Jay McDaniel Daniell and Harper C. Daniell, Sr. and was preceded in death by his 2 Sisters, Eleanor Miller and Genie Porter.

He is survived by his Loving Wife – Aurelia Woodard Hinton-Daniell of Eastman; 2 Sons – Joseph Lee Daniell of Cochran and Harper Carson Daniell, III of Denver, Colo.; 5 Grandchildren – Matthew, Cadence, Flint, Briseis, and Aven; 2 Step-Sons – Lee Hinton (Amanda) of Pine, Colo., and Karl Hinton (Stephanie Galvan) of Bay City, TX; 5 Step-Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews.

The family may be contacted at the Daniell residence, 777 Bell Line Rd., Eastman or the residence of Joseph Lee Daniell, 252 Joe Legg Rd., Cochran, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 1:00PM-2:00PM Thursday, March 30.
