Bainbridge Church saw a crowd gather in its sanctuary on Thursday night, both members of its own congregation, as well as outsiders. The draw? A play, specifically an abridged adaptation of  John Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress. The play was put on by the production company Logos Theater as part of a tour across the southeast, with the cast consisting of 13 young adults from across the country. Logos is affiliated with the Academy of Arts.

Pastor Laddie Derocco spoke with the Post-Searchlight about the play. According to him, this was the first time the church has worked with Logos, and the first time it has hosted a production like this at all. “A member of our church informed me they would be coming through town and had an opening to perform,” Derocco said. “There are many in our community that are familiar with the Academy of the Arts because they come down here and host drama camps for homeschool students.”

The performance was well received according to Derocco. “After the performance, dozens of folks stood around talking with he students and with one another about the play. It was very well received and abundantly applauded during the performance.” He continued, “There was a clear and strong declaration at the end to allow people time to respond to the gospel presentation. The play was executed beautifully and the message of the gospel was clearly presented.”

The Logos group was only in Bainbridge for Thursday night, moving on to Cairo on Friday for their next show. The pastor stated that Bainbridge church would be looking to put on productions like this in the future: “If you get the opportunity to attend a performance of Logos Theater don’t miss it! They are talented and respectful students that are using their summer to hone a trade and share the gospel around the country. We will be hosting them again!”
