Seniors at Bainbridge High School weighed their future options at a career fair last Wednesday. However, BHS students weren’t the only ones in attendance, as the fair was open to other schools within the county, as well as some from surrounding counties. This included Grace Christian Academy, Spring Creek Charter Academy, as well as Miller, Early and Pelham County students.

According to the school CTAE director Senior Master Sergeant Scott Morehouse, while this is not the first career fair the school has held, it is one of the largest; the previous career fair only had 11 employers registered to attend, while this year saw 43 register.

While the event was mainly for BHS seniors, the other schools in attendance didn’t limit it to just 12th grade. Additionally, while BHS seniors attended the fair, the underclassmen were still partaking in activities for their future: 9th and 11th-grade students took part in a career exploration session, while 10th-graders took the PSAT.

SMSgt Morehouse commented that he received positive feedback from both students and businesses alike, with a common compliment being that there was a diverse range of employers present at the fair. Both local and national government entities were present, including the City of Bainbridge, Decatur County Fire and Rescue, and recruiters for both the US Army, Marines and Navy. Companies present included Chick-fil-A, Walmart, and Memorial Hospital and Manor, to name a few.

Career fairs such as this are a part of the school’s Bearcat +1 goals; that is, the goal to have every graduate either enrolled in college, enlisted in the military, or employed in a job.

“I think the career fair went amazingly well,” Morehouse said. “The career partners were ecstatic to see the kids interested in their fields for careers.”
