The Bearcats’ night went well as they opened their season with a 59-47 victory over Thomasville.
Senior guard A.J. Grant led Bainbridge with 15 points — scoring nine from the 3-point line. Bearcats head coach Kelvin Cochran said he’s looking to Grant to be a leader this season.
The game stayed close in the first quarter; then the Bearcats pulled away in the second. The team turned a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter to a 37-23 advantage at halftime, scoring 22 points in the quarter.
The lopsided scoring slowed in the second half, as the Bearcats were outscored by the Bulldogs 24-22 through the third and fourth quarters. Cochran said he feels the slowdown came from his players not being locked in mentally.
“I’m glad we won,” Cochran said. “I saw a lot of good things, but there’s still some things we’ve got to clean up.”
The Bearcats will regroup for their second contest of the season when they welcome 7A Lowndes to Bainbridge — the home game tips off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
