Bainbridge resident Mike Webb recently received a once-in-a-lifetime award, after being recognized as the National Association of Small Trucking Companies’ (NASTC) Driver of the Year earlier this month. Webb was nominated for the award by his son, Robbie Lynn Webb, whose company, RLW Trucking, LLC, he currently works for.
Webb was nominated and distinguished for being accident-free during his 53 years and 6 million miles of trucking. In the nomination letter submitted by Robbie, it stated, “Mike has been driving since he was 18 years old. He has never had a reportable at-fault accident in those 53 years… Despite having three back surgeries and knee replacements he still gives it his all and works harder than those half his age.”
Webb and his family attended the 2023 NASTC Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, where he received the award. When presented with the award, Webb was asked what he would tell younger drivers; he responded, “To drive a truck like the people around you are your family. Don’t be crowding them… you wouldn’t want nobody running over your family. You just need that mindset, that you don’t want to hurt anybody.”
