Youngsters who aspire to play the game of soccer, either recreationally or in the Decatur County School System, received instruction from an expert in the field last week at the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA.

Craig Ingram, a Challenger Sports British Soccer coach, instructed them in all aspects of the game.

YMCA sports director Jeremy Pollock, who set up the camp, said Challenger British Sports is considered by many to be the No. 1 soccer camp provider in the United State and Canada.

“It was a one-week camp offered to kids from ages 3 to 16.” Pollock said. “They were coached by hand-picked coaches who hold the Football Association Coaching License, and who have played the game at an advanced level.”

Coach Ingram taught the kids skills such as dribbling, turning, passing, control, shooting and heading.

Pollock pointed out that the camp was more than a camp geared toward helping the youngsters develop better soccer skills.

“It was also an educational and character building experience,” he said.

“Coach Ingram talked to the campers about character development, lifestyle choices and nutrition along with the traditions and culture of other great soccer playing countries,” Pollock said.

In addition, campers received a Challenger soccer ball, a T-shirt and a camper evaluation.

“They all really enjoyed and were excited about the experience,” Pollock said.
