The Bearcat wrestling team traveled to Tift County over the weekend and came out three wins better. They beat Cairo, Howard and Veterans and had one loss to Colquitt County.
The 36-33 win against Cairo was a “battle,” according to Bearcats head coach Paul Coleman.
“We slipped out with a 3-point lead,” Coleman said. “They brought their A-game.”
Senior wrestler Zachary Burdick went 3-0 in his matches, putting him to 8-0 on the season. Coleman said he’s excited to see what Burdick will accomplish in his senior season.
The team beat Howard 51-36 and Veterans 39-33. Coleman said the close wins are a sign of growth from the beginning of the season.
“I’m happy with the progress we’ve been showing,” Coleman said.
The Bearcats’ only loss came to Colquitt County, with a score of 61-18.
The Ladycats wrestled in a competition Friday and finished tied-4th of 8 teams at the event.
The team wrestles in a home match against Berrien and Florida State University School next. The competition starts at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7.
