As Christmas grows closer, the Bainbridge Service Club is preparing for this year’s Dashing Through the Glow fundraiser. This year will be the second year the club has hosted the fundraiser, which has replaced the usual yard sale as the club’s primary fundraiser. Like last year, the event is based at the Earl May Boat Basin, and consists of a 5k run and one-mile fun run, with the course weaving its way through the Lights Along the River. Participants are also encouraged to dress in bright festive clothing and even wear lights for the occasion.
The event is scheduled for next Thursday, December 21, with registration set to begin at 5:15 PM. The race itself will begin at 6:00 PM; this year will also see a timing company brought in to keep track of contestant’s times. There will also be an increase in the age categories, allowing for more winners.
Service Club member Katie Marzolf spoke with the Post-Searchlight about this year’s run. As the club’s now-primary fundraiser, the money raised will go towards projects and services with organizations including the Salvation Army, CASA and Bainbridge Health and Rehab, to name a few. “Our club bridges the gap for volunteers and financial needs in our community,” Marzolf said. “The increase in funds from last year allowed us to more than double our monetary donations and expand the list of people we serve.”
“The sponsorship donations and registration fees will address local needs through Bainbridge Service Club’s annual projects,” Marzolf concluded. “There is no doubt that the funds generated from the Dashing Through the Glow Run will help make Bainbridge and Decatur County a better place in which to live for many. We need all competitive runners to register for the timed run and all others to register for the Fun Run. It will be a great opportunity to enjoy the Tinsel Train and Lights Along the River all while having fun and spreading good cheer.”
