The Decatur County Board of Education met for their monthly meeting last Thursday afternoon. There was a brief delay as not enough board members were present to hold a meeting, though enough did show up after several minutes. During that wait, the board was shown a Christmas video presentation from the students of Jones Wheat Primary.
After the necessary number of board members were present, the meeting proceeded. Following the call to order, invocation, adoption of the agenda and approval of minutes, Superintendent Dr. Boyd English spoke, providing a financial update. According to Dr. English, the school system’s revenue sits at $16,764,282, while expenditures are listed as $19,223,471.
“The difference when you see this is we’re starting to see the property tax revenue being collected and trickle in Decatur County, so the gap between the revenue and the expenditures are starting to narrow,” he said.
Next, Dr. English provided an update on the new construction projects, with both the new Bainbridge Middle School and the new performing arts center on schedule.
After this, the board approved an out-of-town/overnight field trip request, as well as approved the recommended personnel.
The meeting was then adjourned.
