The Bainbridge Gymcats are holding a mini-camp for aspiring gymnasts in south Georgia.
Children aged 3-10 are encouraged to sign up for a day with the Gymcat squad, where they can learn tricks and build a gymnastics foundation. Gymcats head coach Brooke Vickers said the little Gymcats will go through a circuit of gymnastic events the team performs at meets, led by the gymnasts on the team.
The camp serves as a fundraiser for the team that will go towards season expenses. Vickers said she hopes to raise enough money to help send her gymnasts to skills camps over the summer.
“We’d use it to buy uniforms, stuff like that,” Vickers said. “If it gets enough to where they can send them to camp during the summer, then that, in the future, is what we’re looking forward to… They’ve gone to the Gym Dogs [camp] at UGA. We have one that wants to go to LSU really, really bad.”
The mini-camp is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at the Thomasville YMCA. Vickers said to contact her at 229-400-0211, or Gymcats team mom Shirah Brown at 229-726-0782 with any questions or to register for the camp.
