Board of Education approves millage rate and honors local teachers

The Decatur County Board of Education met for their monthly meeting last Thursday evening, where James Sewell, the Bainbridge High School band director, introduced the new band uniforms worn by band captain, Connor Jarrett, color guards, Mariha Green and junior Cameron Whigham. Following this presentation, DCBOE Curriculum Director Christy Cox presented Amy Zock, Mary Jo Boutwell, and Samantha Palmer each with the Georgia Distinguished Coaches Certificate. Sean Johnson, the Headmaster of Grace Christian Academy, also awarded Alicia Cloud with the Susan Johnson Scholarship.
After special recognition, Superintendent Dr. Boyd English discussed the millage rate for FY25, and the Financial/ Nutritional report update. Next, the commissioners held a public comment session, where Garrett Williams gave packets to the board, requesting a faculty member’s termination. Afterwards, the commissioners moved towards the recommended action items.
The requested field trips were approved. The CTAE Perkins Grant was approved. Next, the millage rate for FY25 and classroom size resolution were also approved. The Strategic Waiver School System Contract for Decatur County was approved. The first reading of the board policy JGCD medication was approved. The first reading of board policy GARH employee leaves & absences (paid parental leave) was approved. Lastly, recommended personnel were approved.
