Bainbridge native and basketball standout Myles Thomas reached a new career milestone with a great performance in Australia. Thomas, who joined the Wyndham Basketball Association’s Championship Men’s team last October, hit a dramatic three-pointer to clinch the Australia Big V Championship for his team.
The season, which began in February and took place in the competitive Melbourne region, saw Thomas showcasing his skills on a new stage. “This season, competing in the Big V has been an incredible platform for me to step out and display myself at a high level and showcasing skill sets that I have,” Thomas told the Post-Searchlight, “that I may have not been able to display in other markets such as South America and Europe.”
He continued, “The style of play here really allowed me to display my ball-handling and three-point shooting abilities, which might not have shone as brightly in other leagues like those in South America and Europe.”
Thomas’ journey through the season was filled with highs and lows, particularly during the challenging second half. Despite the obstacles, his team managed to achieve their ultimate goal—a championship win—thanks to his decisive final shot.
Looking to the future, Thomas is focused on climbing higher in the international basketball scene. “My goals are to continue to climb the overseas ladder and enjoy the process while continuing to learn and develop my game,” he said. Having already played in six different countries across three continents, Thomas is eager to keep developing his game.
He summed up his philosophy with a quote: “Success is never owned, it is rented, and the rent is due every day!”
