In the wake of the Apalachee High School shooting, there has been a rash of false shooting threats made against multiple schools across Georgia. The Post-Searchlight previously reported on the lock-down of all Decatur County schools, including Grace Christian Academy and Spring Creek Charter Academy, last Monday morning, following threats made against Bainbridge High School.

“Early Monday morning, after school had started, we got a threat, and we got GBI involved,” Sheriff Wiley Griffin explained. “And then Public Safety responded, Georgia State Patrol responded, and we responded. All of us were involved in protecting the other schools.”

Then, the following Tuesday, following a tip from a parent, Hutto Elementary would temporarily take safety precautions, though no threat was found and the school resumed normal activity that same day.

Thursday was a particularly bad day, as that morning saw Spring Creek Charter Academy close following an e-mailed bomb threat, followed by a threat against Bainbridge Middle School, and another against the weekend’s homecoming activities.

In the aftermath of these threats, multiple juveniles have been arrested. One juvenile has been arrested in connection to the BMS threats, as has one for the Homecoming threats. The SCCA bomb threat was found to be connected to recent threats against Miller County Middle School, and both threats were traced back to a 12-year-old from Texas. The juvenile, according to an official GBI press release, will be prosecuted by the State of Texas.

According to Sheriff Wiley Griffin, there was an additional threat that had been investigated by law enforcement over the September 6 weekend, which led to a 14-year-old being arrested the following Monday morning, prior to and separately from the threats that would lead to schools being closed that day.

Anyone with knowledge of potential threats are encouraged to contact law enforcement.
