In anticipation of Hurricane Helene, the Bainbridge Bearcats faced off against the Cairo Syrupmakers last Wednesday evening. The Bearcats were off to a rough start, not helped at all by the rainy weather, with the Syrupmakers quickly taking the lead with 27 points.
The game was briefly put on hold during the first half due to lightning, before resuming just before halftime. Following an abbreviated halftime, the Bearcats were able to score a touchdown, putting the score at 27-7 with just over five minutes left in the third quarter.
Unfortunately, lightning would again pause the game, which was ultimately postponed. The Bearcats and Syrupmakers will resume their showdown next Monday, October 7. Before that, the Bearcats will face off against Westover for their regularly scheduled game this Friday, October 4, with kick-off at 7:30 PM. Coach Jay Walls stated that the team’s current focus was on Westover, but they will resume practice with a focus on Cairo afterwards.
