Julia (Julie) Ellen Kyle Harris, of Rome, GA, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the age of 59. She was surrounded by her family at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, GA, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Julie was born in Atlanta, GA, on August 8, 1965, daughter of the late Pugh Elliott Kyle and the late Julia Grizzell Kyle. She was a graduate of Druid Hills High School and went on to receive her B.F.A. in Interior Design and Space Planning from Georgia State University. She loved historic architecture and was committed to preserving that history as much as possible. Julie was a Historic Preservation Planner with the City of Rome. She was a graduate of Leadership Rome Class 40 in 2023 and a graduate of the City of Rome Bridge Academy in 2024.

In her free time, she loved running and exercising. She ran a countless number of miles with her dog, Vega, and completed 19 half marathons. When she wasn’t running, she was still spending time in nature and the outdoors, whether it was riding her bike, kayaking, or playing pickleball. She treasured time with her family and attending occasional Rome Emperors games with friends. Julie was a talented artist, specializing in original pen & ink renderings. She was enthralled with learning, studying, and sharing history and worked to preserve the beautiful buildings and towns in which she lived and loved.

Survivors include her husband, Lee Harris, of Rome, to whom she was married on April 22, 1989; her three sons, Kyle Harris (Rachel), Chase Harris (Shan), and Caleb Harris; her brother, Elliott Kyle (Mary); and six nieces and nephews. She looked forward to being called “JuJu” by her beloved grandson who is due in March.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at West Rome Baptist Church. Pastor Jarrod Roberts will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the service time on Saturday at West Rome Baptist Church.

The Harris Family gives their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Harbin Clinic, Winship Cancer Institute, Emory University Hospital Midtown’s Inpatient Hospice Unit, and the care team from Capstone Hospice.
