Lady Cats qualify for Region Finals

Eight members of Coach Tandria Phillips’ Bainbridge High School Lady Cats track team qualified for the region finals by finishing fourth or higher in all eight events in a preliminary round held Thursday at Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium Track in Albany, Ga.
Two other Lady Cats athletes qualified for the Region 1-AAAA Finals in seven of the eight preliminary events.
Thursday’s qualifiers, along with field events performers in the shot put, discus throw, long jump, triple jump and high jump, will compete Tuesday in the region finals in Albany.
The Lady Cats’ 4-by-100-meter relay team of Khadeeijah Cooper, Jerisha Sutton, Asia Beard and Nancy Session won with a strong time of 48.21, which is the second fastest time in Class AAAA this year.
Session was first in the individual 400-meter run in a time of 57.98 and the 200-meter run in a time of 24.91.
The Lady Cats 4-by-400-meter relay team of Cooper, Sutton, Diamond Bouie and Session finished first in a time of 4:12.44. They have the third fastest time of the year.
Other top finishers at the preliminary meet included Jerisha Sutton, who won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.55 and the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 47.39, and Khadeeijah Cooper, who was second in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 48.64.
The 4-by-400-meter relay team of Jasmine Belin. Alexandria James. Tiara Adams and Asia Beard sprinted home second in a time of 4:17.28.
Third place finishes were captured by Beard, with a 12.86 100-meter run, and Ashley Mango, with a 2:34.12 800-meter run.
Taking individual fourth places were Alexandria James with a 1:01.98 400-meter run and Khadeeijah Cooper with a 17.49 100-meter hurdles time.
Also finishing fourth was the Lady Cats 4-by-100-meter relay tam of Shaniqa Daniels, Jasmine Belin, Tiara Adams and Diamond Bouie. Their time was 51.05.
Performing well for the Lady Cats Thursday, but just missing the finals, were Bouie, who was sixth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:37.51, and Daniels, who was seventh in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.20.
Earlier in the season, the young 4-by-100-meter relay team of sophomore Cooper and freshmen Belin, Adams and Beard set a new meet record of 51.49 at the Chiles High School Freshman Sophomore Invitational Meet in Tallahassee, Fla.
