Farmer’s Market kicks off season

The downtown Bainbridge Farmer’s Market kicked off Saturday with an array of offerings—from plants to fresh strawberries to home-baked cakes and jellies.
“I love it,” said Sharon Brunson of Brinson, who was purchasing some strawberries from Chuck Whittaker. “I wish it had more farmers’ produce, but the crafts are wonderful.”
The market, which hopes to attract only Georgia-grown or made products, will continue on the first Saturday of each month until November.
Whittaker, who operates a u-pick and produce farm off Vada Road, said he’s been a wholesale operation for years, and Saturday’s farmer’s market was a way to let the public know that’s he’s expanding to a retail operation.
“I’m very pleased with it so far,” Whittaker said of the downtown event.
