Grand Jury met this week

The Adjourned May Term, 2011 Grand Jury for Decatur County was convened on Tuesday, Aug. 2, by Judge J. Kevin Chason. Judge Chason charged the Grand Jury as to the criminal and civil functions to be discharged by this Grand Jury.
James Milton Beck served as the Grand Jury’s foreman, Debra J. Bennett served as clerk and Tom Conway served as bailiff.
Criminal cases were presented by District Attorney Joseph K. Mulholland. The Grand Jury returned 41 true bills of indictment and one no bill of indictment. No cases were continued for the term.
The Clerk of Court, Cecilia Willis, made a presentation before the Grand Jury of the financial records in the Clerk’s Office.
Pursuant to Georgia law, the Grand Jury appointed Clayton Penhallegon as a member and Zack H. Calhoun Sr. as an alternate member to the Decatur County Board of Equalization, for a three-year term commencing Jan. 1, 2012, through Dec. 13, 2014.
